How Carta is fuelling abillion’s journey to sustainability

Vikas Garg is founder and CEO of abillion, a social media and consumer review platform that has helped more than 17 million people find more environmentally-friendly alternatives to food and other consumer products. With 1.3 million businesses on the platform across the world, the Singapore-based company serves users in 180 countries. Just last week, abillion reached a major milestone, rising to the #1 spot for sustainability apps in Apple’s U.S. App Store, underscoring its leadership in purpose-driven innovation.

Vikas knows that for global growth, and fundraising across regions, he needs top-tier behind-the-scenes financial infrastructure, so he uses Carta.

The standard for investors

Prior to abillion’s Series A, Vikas was manually managing the company’s cap table. At that point, the company had not yet formally issued stock. “We had names of investors, entity details and investment amounts on a simple spreadsheet,” recalls Vikas.

However, as abillion scaled, the need for robust cap table management became increasingly apparent. The company’s legal counsel, Gunderson Dettmer, suggested Carta, the industry standard.

“When we did our Series A, we needed to professionalize our cap table with better tooling, and that’s why we started with Carta,” says Vikas.

Today, abillion easily manages different classes of preference shares with different valuations on Carta. The investment in Carta has delivered long-term benefits for their investor relations and transparency. “When we get requests from investors to see the cap table—it’s there, it’s easy,” Vikas says.

Since implementing Carta, abillion has also leveraged the platform to manage investor relations, using Carta’s investor updates and data room features.

One centralized platform

Vikas has worked with Carta to seamlessly handle abillion’s employee stock option pool and valuations.

“Carta makes managing the employee option pool super easy,” says Vikas. And Carta’s software has expedited abillion’s process of obtaining audit-ready 409A valuations.

Having a cap table management tool that allows us to manage our option pool and 409A is valuable. Carta bundled all of that up, satisfying regulatory requirements and documentation standards.

This integration is particularly important as abillion prepares for its Series B funding. Fundraising will undoubtedly become more complex, with investors from all over the world, including the U.S., Europe, Japan, Hong Kong, and Singapore. As the leading platform for equity management, Carta is ready to help abillion as the company grows.

Throughout his time on Carta, Vikas says he’s been well supported by Carta’s customer service team, who’ve been able to address questions he has about the platform. The availability of local support in APAC has greatly streamlined workflows, and Carta’s thoroughness during the onboarding process stands out as a point of differentiation amongst competitors for Vikas.

“I really enjoy using Carta—it’s straightforward,” says. Vikas. “ The user experience Carta has built out is intuitive.”
