How Subscribed advanced from launch to profitability on Carta

Subscribed, is the control layer for AI-mediated commerce, launched in 2023, enabling companies to gain visibility and influence over the selection process in AI-generated buying decisions.

Pius Binder initially knew very little about managing equity, but with Carta, he set up Subscribed’s cap table, issued SAFEs to early investors, and continued to fundraise. With that funding, the company has expanded its offers and achieved profitability.

Carta Launch helped Subscribed get started

The majority of Pius’ prior career experience was as a product and growth manager at tech companies, so he understood product-market fit and scalability and had a small group of early backers ready to invest.

Carta Launch, a complimentary starter cap table, made it easy for Pius to onboard, create a cap table, and learn about equity management.

“Carta Launch allowed us to exist. I started using it to collect funds and issue SAFEs. Carta gave me an understanding of how cap tables work so I could refine my pitch and create the company’s foundations,” says Pius.

Subscribed built credibility with investors on Carta

Pius earned the trust of subsequent investors in part by graduating to the full cap table and leveraging Carta’s reputation as the industry standard for equity management.

“Carta provided the most legitimate value. The cap table operates like how you’d want a really advanced spreadsheet to work with the addition of an easy interface, automated calculations, and clear, centralized traceability,” says Pius. “When we evolved to work with a more structured VC, it was simple for everyone to understand the cap table and quantify Subscribed’s value proposition.”

Pius appreciates that Carta provides an audit trail. Being able to spot and correct potential discrepancies helped him build confidence as he worked through Subscribed’s financial position. The resulting clarity and accuracy helped speed closings.

“Because I had Carta’s infrastructure in place, the next round was much faster than before. We closed on new capital in approximately two weeks, because our data was accurate, transparent, and withstood scrutiny,” says Pius.

Modeling tools keep Subscribed focused on growth

Subscribed’s second round enabled the company to become profitable, unlocking a new level of decision-making that Pius must lead. He relies on Carta’s modeling tools to forecast how future funding rounds could potentially affect valuation, dilution, and the equity pool for shareholders.

“In our next iteration, we hope to create more than a profitable business. We want to play a much bigger part in the ecosystem of software and AI companies overall,” says Pius, “but that still requires that I think transactionally in order to provide value to our investors. If we’re going to build something meaningful, we have to manage the funding well.”

Models let him weigh various strategies, such as whether to offer cash payouts to smaller investors or what acquisition could mean for liquidity and returns.

By providing a real‑time understanding of potential outcomes, Carta helps Pius focus on the relationship between market impact and financial growth.
